If you want to use the Data Quality match transform the only option. The match has to "see" all the data. Table comparison etc is a belt and braces approach that is only suitable for exact matching and will not give you any of the metadata about the match process that the match transform will give you.
What are the record volumes involved and what are your concerns about the merge?
